Canadians often brag that their healthcare system is free. Sorry, but not sorry — our healthcare system is not free at all. It’s collapsing very fast. I blame the Liberals for the downfall of this system. They abused it totally.
In the 1990s, provinces cut medical-school seats and residency spots to control costs, creating a lasting shortfall. Canada now has roughly 2.5–2.8 physicians per 1,000 people versus an OECD average near 3.7–3.9, ranking near the bottom among universal systems. Family-physician supply per capita has even slipped recently in some data. RBC and others have estimated gaps of tens of thousands of doctors relative to peer countries by the late 2020s.
Mass immigration also has a major impact on our health system. When you import millions of people from around the world and don’t invest in the infrastructure to sustain the growth, the only thing you will witness is the collapse of our healthcare system. Liberals didn’t care about building more hospitals. They only cared about flooding people into Canada to put more and more pressure on the system.
The average wait time is around 6 to 7 hours to see a doctor. I thought we were living in the best country in the world, but I guess I am wrong. After COVID, things have gone from bad to worse. Post-pandemic backlogs, administrative load, and summer staffing gaps made an already tight system worse, but the physician and bed shortfalls predate COVID by decades.
I think we don’t have the right to call our country the best country in the world if people are literally dying while waiting to see a doctor. I am ashamed of our healthcare system. Our healthcare system is a mental toll on patients who are desperately looking for help. Our government, instead of improving the infrastructure of our healthcare system, is busy giving money away to other foreign countries like Ukraine. I sometimes wonder how dumb and incompetent our leaders are.
MAID is also another problem. I hate to say it, but there is nothing glorious about MAID. It’s an organized way to kill older people. Some doctors are suggesting MAID to younger people for depression. Those doctors need to be sent to jail. This is not how you reduce the pressure on the healthcare system. You need to invest in students, doctors, hospitals, schools, and colleges, close the floodgates of the immigration system, and introduce private investment in this sector, because our government only knows how to fuck up the system.
Something needs to be done before it’s too late. By the way, stop bragging that our healthcare system is free. It’s not.
